THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran playback singer KP
Udayabhanu passed away at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. He was
78.
Udayabhanu has been bedridden for about two years. His wife
Vijayalekshmi had died in 2007. He is survived by his son Rajeev Udayabhanu.
Udayabhanu leaves behind more than 60 songs which are still popular
among music lovers. His rendition ‘Kananana chaayayil aadumekkan‘
in the film Ramanan transcended generations, morphing itself into a proverbial
romantic classic song. Udayabhanu made
his debut as playback singer in
1958 with the song ‘Enthinithra Panchasara’ for film ‘Nayaru Pidicha Pulival’ .He sang another song with P Leela
‘Velutha Penne’ for the same film. His songs “Anuraga Nadakathil (Ninamaninja
Kaalpadukal), Kanana Chayayil (Ramanan), Thamara Thumbi Vaavaa (Puthiya Aakasam
Puthiya Bhoomi) found swift appeal and became super hits.
